Privacy and cookies

No cookies and no tracking. We only count anonymous totals to improve the calculators.

In short

What data do we count?

When a page opens, your browser sends a small signal to our own server with only the name of the event ("page visit", "calculation completed" or a click on a button, partner link or notice) and the page path. On a page visit, your browser also sends the name of the website you came from along (for example google.be or linkedin.com), without the address of the page there and without search terms. "Calculation completed" is counted at most once per calculator per page visit, if you changed the input and get a result. The server adds it to a total per date, website (loonkosten.be), page, country, event and calculator. We also count page visits per date, website and source. The source is only the name of the referring website, shortened to the main domain (for example "google", "bing", "linkedin" or "salarisnet.nl"), "direct" if there is no referring website, or "internal" if you click through within loonkosten.be. We store nothing more.

The country is derived from your IP address with a local country database from DB-IP (on our own server, not with a third party). The IP address is then discarded immediately and not stored. We also do not store browser or device data (user agent), screen size, full web addresses or search terms of the referring website, or other characteristics, and we do not build profiles. Obvious bots are not counted.

To limit abuse of the counter, the server briefly calculates an anonymous group number (one of 4,096) with a secret key that is replaced every day. That number cannot be traced back to you and is erased within two minutes.

Buttons and partner links

Below some results there may be buttons, for example for a PDF report or help from a payroll provider. Such services are still being prepared: a click only shows a notice that it is coming soon. We count how often a button is clicked, as a total. We do not ask for an email address or other data.

Links to partners are marked "Sponsored". If you buy something through such a link, we may receive a fee. We count the number of clicks as a total. We do not pass on any data about you to the partner. On the partner’s website, that partner’s privacy and cookie policy applies.

Site settings

The site loads a small settings file from our own server (including texts, rates and which buttons are visible). That file contains no data about visitors. The admin area is not public and only uses a functional session cookie for logged-in administrators. Visitors to the site do not get cookies.

Why?

To see which calculators are used, how many calculations are completed per month, from which countries and via which websites visitors come, and whether there is interest in additional services. This helps us improve the site.

How long do we keep this?

We keep the totals for 25 months at most. After that they are deleted automatically.

What does your own browser store?

The NL/BE switch remembers nothing: no country choice is stored in your browser (no localStorage either) and you are not redirected automatically. A previously stored country choice (key country, from before October 2026) is erased on your next visit. If your browser language points to the other country, we show at most a small notice with a link; that choice stays in your browser.

The “Link with your input” button puts your input in the web address, so you can share the calculation or find it again later. This only happens if you press the button; your input is not sent to us or stored.

Contact form

Via the contact form you can report an error, suggestion or question. We then store: your message, the type of message, the page you mention, the website (loonkosten.be) and the time, and your email address if you enter it. An email address is not required; only enter it if you want a reply. We do not ask for your name or other data.

We only use your message to reply to it and to improve the site (for example to fix an error in a calculation). A message arrives in our own mailbox on the same server. We do not pass your message or email address on to others. We keep messages 12 months at most; after that they are deleted automatically. If you want us to delete your message sooner, let us know via the form.

To limit abuse (spam), the server turns your IP address into an encrypted code with a secret key that is replaced every day. This lets us limit how many messages can come from one address in a short time. We do not store your IP address itself, and we delete the code with your message after 30 days. The form does not use cookies.

Web server

As with any website, the web server may briefly process technical data such as the IP address to deliver the page and for security and troubleshooting. We do not use that data for statistics.
