How the calculators work

What does an employee cost, what do you keep in net pay, how much holiday and notice are you entitled to, and are you really self-employed? Fifteen calculators and a bogus self-employment test based on official Belgian sources (RSZ/ONSS, FPS Finance, FPS Employment, FPS Social Security, RIZIV/INAMI) for 2026 — useful for checking your payroll provider’s (social secretariat’s) figures, with sources for every calculation.

The calculators assume a white-collar employee in the private sector and use the official Belgian amounts for 2026: social security contributions (RSZ/ONSS), withholding tax from FPS Finance, notice periods from FPS Employment and the rules for holidays and guaranteed salary. Below each calculation you will find the values used and the sources. Anything not fully confirmed by an official source is marked “approximation”.

Employer? Employer cost shows the total employer cost of a white-collar employee; useful for planning a hire or checking your social secretariat’s figures. Employee? With Gross to net you see your net pay, and with Working fewer hours how much net pay you lose working part-time; you can also work out your holidays and holiday pay, your leaving holiday pay, your guaranteed salary during sickness and your notice period, as well as overtime, your end-of-year bonus, the working-from-home allowance, the travel allowance and the cost of sickness absence. Self-employed or a client? Compare the cost of a contractor with an employee and take the bogus self-employment test under the Employment Relationships Act, including the sector presumption with 9 criteria. Buying a home? With How much can I borrow? you see roughly how much you can borrow, alone or together.
