For employees and employers
Calculate overtime and overtime pay (Belgium)
What does an overtime hour pay, and what does it cost? For employees and employers: the statutory overtime premium (50% or 100%), the new voluntary net overtime hours since 1 April 2026, social security and a net indication.

Net indication: difference between net salary with and without the overtime (gross-to-net 2026, single without children), without the withholding tax reduction for overtime. The actual net amount may therefore be higher.
Explanation: calculate overtime and overtime pay (Belgium)
In Belgium, work above 9 hours a day or 40 hours a week (or a lower limit from a collective agreement) gives the right to overtime pay: 50% on weekdays and Saturday, 100% on Sundays and public holidays (art. 29 Labour Act of 16 March 1971). As a rule, the employee is also entitled to compensatory rest. What a salaried employee costs in total can be found at employer cost.
Frequently asked questions
How much overtime pay do I get for an overtime hour?
By law 50% on top of the ordinary hourly wage for overtime on Monday to Saturday and 100% for overtime on a Sunday, public holiday or substitute day. A collective agreement may set higher percentages.
How do I calculate my hourly wage from my monthly salary?
The usual method is: monthly salary × 3 / 13 / number of hours per week. With €3,500 a month and 38 hours a week, that is €21.26 an hour.
What are voluntary overtime and recovery hours?
These are special schemes in which the employee works overtime at their own request without compensatory rest. Recovery hours (relance-uren) carry no overtime premium but get favourable tax and social security treatment. These schemes are not included in the calculator.
Why is the net indication lower than what I receive?
Employers often apply a withholding tax reduction for overtime to the overtime pay. The calculator gives the net indication without that reduction, so the actual net amount may be higher.
Note: indicative, not advice
This calculation is an indication based on general statutory rules and 2026 rates and does not constitute tax, legal or payroll advice. Hours above 9 hours a day or 40 hours a week (or a lower collective agreement limit) give the right to overtime pay and, as a rule, compensatory rest. Not included: the tax reduction for overtime (employer and employee), the 120 voluntary overtime hours with overtime premium (free of social security, but taxed), hospitality schemes, blue-collar workers (108%) and sectoral deviations. No rights can be derived from this result.
